The Age of McCain

Two items caught my eye today. The first was a post at The Daily Dish about a recent study of Americans seventy years or older. It turns out that 22% of them suffer from "cognitive dysfunction without dementia." Read about the study here.
The second was this astonishing montage of John McCain appearances and interviews compiled by TPM's Josh Marshall. While McCain has gained some traction with his slick, finger-pointing attack ads, whenever he opens his mouth he exposes himself to our YouTube nation. No, the age question is not going to go away. Though, sooner or later, will trot out Ronald Reagan's famous retort about exploiting his opponent's youth and inexperience, the real question is whether or not he'll flub the delivery.

McCain has probably forgotten more than Obama knows.....but he will have aides, and he keeps good notes.

Putting an ageing candidate into the pressure cooker is not smart. A Commander-in-Chief of America is an acute stressfull position. Considering his age, I venture to say, he is not operating on all cylinders as when younger. FACT OF LIFE! I say, he is not up to snuff. As for his bout with cancer, we are told it's in a state of remission. Meaning it can not crop up again elsewhere. Bottom line is McCain with his hot-headed temperment and duties of President on his shoulders will not fair well physically as President
He's too old to cut the mustard!!!!!!!!!

It is my fondest wish that Obamabots continue to make fun of people over 70 who vote in very LARGE numbers LOL...It can only help the Obama campaign in an area where they are already severely deficient:-)
"The presidential campaign is full of chatter — much of it quite misinformed — about the role of age," said Dr. William Thomas, a geriatrician and professor at the Erickson School of Aging Studies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Geriatrics is a medical specialty that focuses on the elderly.
"People in old age are fully capable of imaginative and skillful work," Thomas added. "A person's age is not a block to doing fantastic work."
Although U.S. life expectancy at birth is about 78 years, a person who reaches 70 can expect to live another 15 years. For a seventy-something president, that could work out to two terms in office, plus time for writing memoirs_and cashing in on book sales.

The recent turn of events must have McCain crapping in his Depends. First, the conviction of the " Terrorist" McCain was so exuberant about received a very light sentence along with the blessings of the presiding judge. Next, it looks as though a timetable for the withdrawal of US Troops from Iraq is being developed between Malaki Govt and the US. This shoots down McCains vow "to stay in Iraq and not leave until victory is achieved" and last, Mccain pissing and moaning about congress taking a 5 week holiday when Mccain himself has been absent from congrss 60 percent of the time. Luckily MCain has Lieberman in his entourage to help him change his Depends.

MAYBE WE SHOULD BE WORRIED ABOUT OBAMAS HEALTH RISKS ABOUT HIS PAST SEXUAL ENCOUNTERS IN THE BACK OF THAT LIMO........OR HIS CONTINUED CIGAREETE SMOKING AND WHY ARE HIS LIPS PURPLE ? COULD BE A HEART PROBLEM, GASP !
S. Merritt8:24PMAug 7th 2008
About that idit Mccain. I sad there would be more abd here is another chapter. This is about Mccain being so dedicated in his quest to build 35 Nucler plants and bashing Obama for not going along with him. The last Nuclear plant in the US was built in 1996 which was 12 years ago and in these 12 years Mccain was also in congress. So what did McCain do about nuclear power these past 12 years--absolutely nothing. So why is he so vocal these days about Nuclear power--Answer is pure political bullshit. Also, it will take 4 1/2 years to build a nuclear power plant which means if they broke ground tomorrow, Mccain would be dead from old age or poor health before the first one is completed. Then there is the safety issue. A US Nuclear submarine ( Mccains Navy) has been leaking poisous radiation undetected until very recently. And if the US Navy cannot control radiation poisoning, how is McCain going to control do it with his 35 new power plants ?

No matter what age McCain is he talks about War like its a moral issue. Only a fool would trust him !
Jim8:27PMAug 7th 2008
TJ, you are right! McCain is just like the Patriot Missle, "Deadly !"
S. Merritt8:28PMAug 7th 2008
Henry : At least you don't have to worry about Mccains sex life because after ditching a sick wife and kids to marry a beer queen he was shacking up with in Hawaii, McCain is 72 years old and now he's doing far more damage with his mouth than he can with his pecker.
S. Merritt8:38PMAug 7th 2008
EGOBa Maniac : Age in itself might not be much of a factor but when you consider Mccain has already had 5 cancerous growths removed from his body and has been mentally damaged not only from war captivity but from being stupid all of his life ( Bragging about being 6th from the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy). Add to this the fact that Americans, sick of Republicans want no more of them and especially this Bush puppet.MCain would be far better off sitting on his Arizona " Ranch ( ala Bush) and sucking up some of his wifes Budweisers.

McCain is tough as leather. He's good for another good 20 years. Put Obama in the ring with him and Obama gets his skinnny butt whipped. I mean this guy McCain is a war hero gor goodness sakes. What has Obama done but run his mouth and talk trash. Keep the change.

I'm so happy someone brought up McCain's wife. Its the worse coward that attacks a man's wife:
Cindy McCain There was an article in the Wall Street Journal on Cindy McCain, John's wife. All I ever saw was this attractive woman standing beside John. I was surprised how talented and involved with world problems she is. This is a summary of the article:
She graduated from Southern Cal and was a special-needs teacher. After her Dad died she became involved with his beer distributing firm and Is now the chairwoman. Sales have doubled since she has taken over from her father. They have a marriage prenuptial agreement, her assets remain separate. She is involved around the world clearing land mines - travels to these countries on a detonation team and service on their board. They have a 19 year old serving in Iraq , another son in the Naval Academy , a daughter recently graduated from Columbia Univ. , an adopted daughter in high school, and a son who is the finance guy at the beer firm. Raised kids in Phoenix , Az rather than Washington D.C. (better atmosphere). He commuted.
In 1991, Mrs. McCain came across a girl in an orphanage in Bangladesh . Mother Teresa implored Mrs. Mc Cain to adopt the baby with severe cleft palate. She did so without first telling her husband. The couple adopted the girl who has had a dozen operations to repair her cleft palate and other medical problems. They have a Family Foundation for children's causes. She's active with 'Halo Trust' - to clear land mines, provide water and food in war ravaged and developing countries. She will join an overseas mission of 'Operation Smile', a charity for corrective surgery on children's faces. She has had two back surgeries and became addicted to pain killers. She talks openly about in which she says is part of the recovery
process.
I'm surprised the media is so quiet about her attributes. She sounds more capable than Obama. We would really get two for the price of one. A person with business and international experience

McCain has pitifully played up his WAR HERO persona and wears it like a badge. Being a prisoner of war does not mean you are presidential material. Go to the VFW Hall, plenty of war heros there sipping their toddys. MCCain is not the only war hero in America but he acts as if he is and it gives him some status quo over others who served and were not captured or those who do not support violence and war. My cousin was a prisoner during the war with Germany, suffered depriviations and torture but did not wear it like a badge. He moved on. McCain's needle is stuck on "I Am A War Hero". Many voters have expressed they are sick of McCain riding his hero issue to death.

Leave it to David Knowles to spin a bunch of shit into a stupid story. The left pundits are getting worried that their Chosen Boy is not making the grade. Cocky, Arrogant, inexperienced Obama is going down the tubes quickly. In fact, Hillary may leave the convention as the candidate.

You mean those mean cowardly Anti-Michelle Obama spinsters who twist and attack the words of Michelle Obama. I agree. While your on the subject of first ladies and cowards, you might as well dig deeper. Look into some facts re Cindy McCain's pill popping addiction. At the same time, you should discover a cowardly act; stealing of prescription drugs from her employer. Not new news, research it.

Seventy-one is not old anymore. My parents are not ageing like their parents. I am not ageing like them. I anticipate living and living/working well to the century mark. Seventy is the new sixty; forty is the new thirty ... and who wants a 30-something President? (except perhaps teenagers and ideologues)

Don't tell me your little feelings are hurt. As much gutter talk that comes from your mouth and you want us to be nice to the man who's older than "dirt." You've got enough gall to choke a horse.
People over 70 should be jumping on the band wagon for Obama for no other reason then his policy to exempt seniors from taxes or even filing returns if they make 50,000 or less per year.
An unmarried couple could end up making close to a hundred thousand dollars without paying taxes.
Do you realize how many seniors make 50,000 or less per year, you twerp?
Jittery John is as old as "dirt." Age does not excuse ignorance, hatred or stupidity.

My entire family, immediate and extended, are voting for McCain. All of the employees at the office are voting for McCain. Someone must be nuts when they say Obama is ahead. I don't personally know anyone who is going to vote for him. McCain in '08!

i wouldnt worry about Macs delivery, know-nothing, uh, er, um, ah, eh, a, but i would worry about Obamas sinking poll numbers. And his "eligibility" to even be the potus......And then his lack of experience, his bad judgements and freinds, and his black theology 20 yr. schooling in that church of hate isnt going to magic carpet ride him into the oval office either......but you can dream on...
