Teevee news producers suddenly wondered if they should even <em>bother</em> covering the other pointless days of the Democratic convention, still being held at the usual <a href="http://www.myfoxcolorado.com/myfox/pages/News/Detail?contentId=6937270&amp;version=2&amp;locale=EN-US&amp;layoutCode=TSTY&amp;pageId=3.2.1">roller rink</a> downtown, a half mile away across Interstate 25.<br /><br />But the real challenge is for John McCain's crippled campaign. What can he do at the Republican convention that could <a href="http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/detail?blogid=14&amp;entry_id=27901">possibly compete</a> with his handsome young opponent giving a rousing acceptance sermon to a massive, delirious crowd of attractive young supporters?<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/ken-laynes-outrage/"></a><br /><br />Obama could and probably will have the Rolling Stones, <a href="http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article4076339.ece">Bob Dylan,</a> Dave Matthews, Justin Timberlake and <a href="http://wonkette.com/380050/mccain-obama-flirt-with-underage-hannah-montana">Hannah Montana</a> as opening acts. The stagecraft and camera angles and lighting and sounds will <a href="http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/sunday/la-oe-morrison10-2008jul10,0,6324948.column">all be perfect,</a> and Obama's wife and daughters will be wearing stylish dresses that every fit woman in America will buy the next day. Oprah Winfrey will give all 78,000 fans a new Toyota hybrid sporting the Obama logo. Global warming will end, houses will double in value, and gasoline will cost 47 cents a gallon, in honor of Barack's August 4 birthday.<br /><br />McCain faces a gloomy arena in St. Paul, where the American Interstate Highway 35 bridge <a href="http://minnesota.publicradio.org/collections/special/2007/bridge_collapse/">collapsed over the Mississippi</a> one year ago. Conservatives don't support him, and everybody else is scared he's going to shut down social security and nuke half the world. His <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=3aMDJP4VxY4">biggest campaign speech</a> of the year, so far, was a <a href="http://wonkette.com/400566/green-screen-fun-with-mccains-terrible-sp-sp-speech">stuttering catastrophe</a> before a handful of coughing old people in a <a href="http://wonkette.com/400190/relive-walnuts-big-speech-in-all-its-failure">suburban bingo hall</a> somewhere in Louisiana.<br /><br />Don't give up, Juan. Here are some things Campaign McCain can do to steal the spotlight away from that sprightly and hopeful opponent:<br /><br /><strong>1. Mail a pack of Werther's butterfat-caramel candies to every senior citizen in America.</strong> Not as flashy as Angelina Jolie landing at Mile High Stadium in a bikini, by parachute, while her twin babies (Barack and Obama) coo to the crowd from a 1,000-foot-wide video screen, but old people love hard candies and old people love to vote.<br /><br /><strong><img width="247" vspace="8" hspace="11" height="158" border="1" align="right" alt="" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/news.aol.com/political-machine/media/2008/07/crash.jpg" bordercolor="black" />2. Mail one 36-pack case of Bud Lite cans to each American household:</strong> Cindy McCain <a href="http://wonkette.com/375743/mccain-will-be-president-because-his-current-wife-runs-beernascar-industry">owns</a> the Budweiser brewery in Arizona! They make a lot of Bud Lite, and all Americans drink gallons of Bud Lite every day, except for Fundamentalist Christians -- and they're not even <em>voting </em>this year!<br /><br /><strong>3. While in St. Paul, start a Navy Air war against Minneapolis. </strong>Americans don't pay much attention to politics or news or much of anything that doesn't involve Hot Cheetos or NASCAR, or course, but even the biggest doofus who somehow managed to get registered to vote will excitedly switch to CNN and FOX if there's some kind of dramatic live war footage of stuff being blown up. Once "Admiral" McCain is strapped into a vintage A-4 Skyhawk, he can dramatically crash into the river and be captured by the cast of <em>Prairie Home Companion.<br /><br /></em><span style="font-style: italic;">Ken Layne is the managing editor of </span><a href="http://wonkette.com/" style="font-style: italic;">Wonkette</a><span style="font-style: italic;"> and a weekly columnist here at </span><a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/ken-laynes-outrage/" style="font-style: italic;">Political Machine.</a><p style="clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;">&nbsp;</p><p><a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/07/13/heres-how-john-mccain-can-top-obamas-stadium-show/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry">Permalink</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/forward/1254355/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email">Email this</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://www.technorati.com/cosmos/search.html?rank=&amp;fc=1&amp;url=http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/07/13/heres-how-john-mccain-can-top-obamas-stadium-show/" title="Linking Blogs">Linking&nbsp;Blogs</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/07/13/heres-how-john-mccain-can-top-obamas-stadium-show/#comments" title="View reader comments on this entry">Comments</a></p>]]></description><dc:creator>Ken Layne</dc:creator><dc:date>2008-07-13T23:31:00+00:00</dc:date></item><item><title>McCain's Convention Nightmare</title><link>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/07/07/mccains-convention-nightmare/</link><guid isPermaLink="true">http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/07/07/mccains-convention-nightmare/</guid><comments>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/07/07/mccains-convention-nightmare/#comments</comments><description><![CDATA[<p>Filed under: <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/barack-obama/" rel="tag">Barack Obama</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/john-mccain/" rel="tag">John McCain</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/featured-stories/" rel="tag">Featured Stories</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/2008-president/" rel="tag">2008 President</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/conventions/" rel="tag">Conventions</a></p><img width="315" vspace="4" hspace="4" height="216" border="1" align="right" alt="" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/news.aol.com/political-machine/media/2008/07/81795088.jpg" />Are you ready for some political football? The date? September 1. The place? <a href="http://www.rollcall.com/news/breakingnews/19763-1.html">St. Paul</a>, Minnesota. The teams? <strong>John McCain</strong> versus everybody else. As <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/06/AR2008070602322.html?hpid=topnews"><em>The Washington Post</em></a> reports today, anticipation is running high for the showdown between Republican conservatives and their presumptive party leader. At issue is the G.O.P. platform, which, at present, is a 100-page-long decree that mentions <strong>George W. Bush's</strong> name at every scintillating, right-wing turn of phrase:<br /><blockquote><br />Virtually the entire platform will have to be rewritten to lessen the imprint of the president, who has the highest disapproval rating of any White House occupant since <strong>Richard M. Nixon</strong>.<br /></blockquote><br />And that's what has conservatives itching for a fight. Will the new Republican road-map include such McCain priorities as global warming, stem cell research, immigration reform, and campaign finance restrictions? Just how many planks can you change before you simply admit you've installed a new floor altogether? <br /><blockquote><br />Ebell [Myron, of the Competitive Enterprise Institute] said McCain should be careful as he and his allies seek to change the platform to reflect his political sensibilities. "He attracts a lot of votes in the middle--independents and moderates," Ebell said. But, if he pushes on each one of these issues--campaign finance, immigration, or global warming energy issues--he's likely to keep a lot of people at home on Election Day."<br /></blockquote><br />Of course, it's a drag going to a party whose host you really don't like. And if you're a purist, like fellow Republican presidential candidate <strong>Ron Paul</strong>, you say to hell with all that, and schedule your own party.<br /><br />Just to be sure McCain hears the message of discord loud and clear, Ron Paul (George and Ringo) has booked his own "mini-convention" so as to overlap (like a minor eclipse) over the bigger party <a href="http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/breaking/s_571996.html">down the way</a>:<br /> <blockquote><br /> Maverick GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul has booked an arena in Minneapolis for a "mini-convention" that could steal some of John McCain's thunder just days before he accepts the Republican nomination.<br /> </blockquote><br /> Aside from thunder, it seems Paul has also stolen McCain's former nickname. Never mind. You see, by the time all the Republican squabbling is set to start, <strong>Barack Obama</strong> will have already given his acceptance spectacle at mile- high stadium to <a href="http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0708/11558.html">75,000+</a> people on the 40th anniversary of <strong>Martin Luther King's</strong> "I Have a Dream" speech. <br /> <br /> Fire up the <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/06/us/politics/06mccain.html">teleprompter</a>, boys. McCain is coming in for another bumpy landing.<p style="clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;">&nbsp;</p><p><a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/07/07/mccains-convention-nightmare/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry">Permalink</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/forward/1247297/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email">Email this</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://www.technorati.com/cosmos/search.html?rank=&amp;fc=1&amp;url=http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/07/07/mccains-convention-nightmare/" title="Linking Blogs">Linking&nbsp;Blogs</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/07/07/mccains-convention-nightmare/#comments" title="View reader comments on this entry">Comments</a></p>]]></description><category>george w. push</category><category>GeorgeW.Push</category><category>i have a dream</category><category>IHaveADream</category><category>larry craig</category><category>LarryCraig</category><category>martin luther king jr.</category><category>MartinLutherKingJr.</category><category>planks</category><category>republican platform</category><category>RepublicanPlatform</category><category>richard m. nixon</category><category>RichardM.Nixon</category><category>ron paul</category><category>RonPaul</category><category>st. paul</category><category>St.Paul</category><dc:creator>David Knowles</dc:creator><dc:date>2008-07-07T09:03:00+00:00</dc:date></item><item><title>DNC Protesters Fear 'Crap Cannon'</title><link>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/12/windbreaking-news-protestors-fear-crap-cannon/</link><guid isPermaLink="true">http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/12/windbreaking-news-protestors-fear-crap-cannon/</guid><comments>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/12/windbreaking-news-protestors-fear-crap-cannon/#comments</comments><description><![CDATA[<p>Filed under: <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/breaking-news/" rel="tag">Breaking News</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/humor/" rel="tag">Humor</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/conventions/" rel="tag">Conventions</a></p><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/news.aol.com/political-machine/media/2008/06/77903170_phixr.jpg" id="img1" />Windbreaking News: Fox News.com <a href="http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/06/10/activists-preparing-against-use-of-brown-note-at-dem-convention/">is reporting</a> that Denver activists planning protests at the Democratic National Convention are concerned about police unleashing a "crap cannon" on them. The crap cannon is also called "the brown note". According to Fox "it is believed to be an infrasound frequency that debilitates a person by making them defecate involuntarily." <br /><br />Mark Cohen of a Denver protest group called Re-create '68 said, "We know this weapon and weapons like it have been used at other large protests before." He says the weapon is uses inaudible frequencies to disrupt people's equilibrium. The theory is that the brown note weapon comes from military developers looking for non-lethal alternatives to conventional weapons. For example, there was <a href="http://blog.washingtonpost.com/offbeat/2007/06/sunshine_project_uncovers_us_m.html">a report</a> last year of a so-called "gay bomb" the military may or may not have tried to develop. <br /><br /> Fox cited the popular Discovery Channel TV show <span style="font-style: italic;">Mythbusters</span>' <a href="http://shopping.discovery.com/product-65486.html">2004 test</a> to poo poo the brown note. The show concluded that there is no evidence any frequency can cause people to crap themselves. In an episode from season three of <span style="font-style: italic;">South Park</span>, the children tried to find the mystical tone with more success (<a href="http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/151774/">clip</a>). <br /><br /> In April, <span style="font-style: italic;">Democracy Now</span>'s Amy Goodman <a href="http://theunconventionalconventionist.blogspot.com/2008/04/democracy-now-in-denver-yesterday.html">spoke to</a> Cohen about Recreate '68.<p style="clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;">&nbsp;</p><p><a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/12/windbreaking-news-protestors-fear-crap-cannon/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry">Permalink</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/forward/1223934/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email">Email this</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://www.technorati.com/cosmos/search.html?rank=&amp;fc=1&amp;url=http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/12/windbreaking-news-protestors-fear-crap-cannon/" title="Linking Blogs">Linking&nbsp;Blogs</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/12/windbreaking-news-protestors-fear-crap-cannon/#comments" title="View reader comments on this entry">Comments</a></p>]]></description><category>convention</category><category>crap cannon</category><category>CrapCannon</category><category>Democratic convention</category><category>DemocraticConvention</category><category>Denver</category><category>Fox News</category><category>FoxNews</category><category>protesters</category><dc:creator>Jay Allbritton</dc:creator><dc:date>2008-06-12T14:30:00+00:00</dc:date></item><item><title>Ron Paul Announces Rival Convention</title><link>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/10/ron-paul-announces-rival-convention/</link><guid isPermaLink="true">http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/10/ron-paul-announces-rival-convention/</guid><comments>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/10/ron-paul-announces-rival-convention/#comments</comments><description><![CDATA[<p>Filed under: <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/republicans/" rel="tag">Republicans</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/breaking-news/" rel="tag">Breaking News</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/ron-paul/" rel="tag">Ron Paul</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/2008-president/" rel="tag">2008 President</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/conventions/" rel="tag">Conventions</a></p>Or, as <a href="http://wonkette.com/400362/oh-god-ron-paul-plans-paultard-convention">Wonkette </a>sensitively puts it, "Oh God: Ron Paul Plans Paultard Convention" <blockquote>As of now, your Wonkette still plans on attending the Republican National Convention in the Twin <img width="250" vspace="4" hspace="4" height="188" border="1" align="right" alt="" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/news.aol.com/political-machine/media/2008/06/ron-paul-calypse-now.jpg" />Cities in early September, because why not. But now there may be something interesting to do! That's right: Ron Paul will hold a Rival Convention, same time, same cities, with every Paultard in the world. </blockquote>And from the Pittsburgh <a href="http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/breaking/s_571996.html">Tribune-Review</a>: (I like the tribune, but not so much the review. Too predictable.)<blockquote>A Paul campaign aide said the Texas congressman hopes to pack about 11,000 supporters into the Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota on Sept. 2, which coincides with the second day of the Republican National Convention at the Xcel Energy Center in neighboring St. Paul.</blockquote>At first, I thought this would be a big monkey wrench in my <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/05/ron-paul-calypse-now/">"Ron-Paul-calypse Now!"</a> plan, but since that's set for day 1 of the convention, this event will allow the triumphant Paul Army to get together and celebrate, sing hymns praising my name, perhaps design a <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/03/if-ron-paul-wins-idaho-i-will-get-rp-tattoo/">tattoo</a> for me. Then, on day 3, perhaps a rumble?<script type="text/javascript"> var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? "https://ssl." : "http://www."); document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='" + gaJsHost + "google-analytics.com/ga.js' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E")); </script><script type="text/javascript"> var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-3712949-1"); pageTracker._initData(); pageTracker._trackPageview(); </script><br /><br />The Ron Paul campaign has not made any official statement about <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/29/dittoheads-for-hillary-meet-dems-for-ron-paul/">Operation: RonDemption</a> (and the <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/28/ron-paul-wins-24-in-idaho-best-yet/">24% showing in Idaho</a> that resulted from it), but I can assure you they know about it, just as they know about "<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/05/ron-paul-calypse-now/">Ron-Paul-calypse Now!</a>" This announcement cannot be a coincidence. <br /><br />For those of you who missed it, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/05/ron-paul-calypse-now/">here's the plan</a>: <blockquote><a href="http://MyRonPaulBlimp.com">MyRonPaulBlimp.com</a> sells mini Ron Paul Blimps (not to be confused with Law &amp; Order actor Fred Thompson's "Fred Zeppelins," or the "Huck-enberg"), and they ain't all that mini, measuring 15 to 26 feet in length, depending on how much coin you want to drop. A portion of the proceeds go to the Ron <img width="190" vspace="4" hspace="4" height="306" border="1" align="right" alt="" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/news.aol.com/political-machine/media/2008/05/rp-tattoo.jpg" />Paul campaign. <br /><br />They're pricey, I'm not gonna lie, but they have some useful suggestions on how to defray the cost. <br /><br />The plan is for massive numbers of Ron Paul blimp owners to descend on Minneapolis for the Republican National Convention, September 1-4, 2008. I want several thousand Ron Paul mini-blimps to ring the Xcel Energy Center, expanding out like a shock wave, with "Flight of the Valkyries" blaring from every Paulite's car stereo. </blockquote>So, just to be clear, at this point, Ron Paul has to be named as a VP candidate in order for me to get the tattoo. <br /><br />Still, if I see enough Ron Paul blimps in the St. Paul skies on September 1, I might just be moved to the ink. Wager notwithstanding. <br /><br />While the political press likes to have fun at the Paul Army's expense, I would like to point out that the whole genesis of this is the fact that Ron Paul has been denied a speaking slot at the GOP conclave because he won't endorse McCain, due principally to Dr. Paul's opposition to the war. I don't see anything "Paultarded" about that.<p style="clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;">&nbsp;</p><p><a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/10/ron-paul-announces-rival-convention/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry">Permalink</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/forward/1221551/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email">Email this</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://www.technorati.com/cosmos/search.html?rank=&amp;fc=1&amp;url=http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/10/ron-paul-announces-rival-convention/" title="Linking Blogs">Linking&nbsp;Blogs</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/10/ron-paul-announces-rival-convention/#comments" title="View reader comments on this entry">Comments</a></p>]]></description><category>convention</category><category>election</category><category>president 2008</category><category>President2008</category><category>Republican convention</category><category>RepublicanConvention</category><category>Republicans</category><category>Ron Paul</category><category>RonPaul</category><category>St. Paul</category><category>St.Paul</category><category>Texas</category><dc:creator>Tommy Christopher</dc:creator><dc:date>2008-06-10T16:41:00+00:00</dc:date></item><item><title>Ron-Paul-calypse Now!</title><link>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/05/ron-paul-calypse-now/</link><guid isPermaLink="true">http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/05/ron-paul-calypse-now/</guid><comments>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/05/ron-paul-calypse-now/#comments</comments><description><![CDATA[<p>Filed under: <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/republicans/" rel="tag">Republicans</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/ron-paul/" rel="tag">Ron Paul</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/2008-president/" rel="tag">2008 President</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/conventions/" rel="tag">Conventions</a></p><blockquote>"I love the smell of money bombs in the morning. Smells like...liberty." - Fictitious Ron Paul/Robert Duvall Hybrid </blockquote>After the success of Operation RonDemption, where we hit <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/29/dittoheads-for-hillary-meet-dems-for-ron-paul/">our goal</a> of a 20+ point finish for Dr. Paul in Idaho, I was feeling a little let down, as the mainstream media continued to characterize these as anti-McCain votes, instead of recognizing the very real power of the Paul grassroots movement. <img width="250" vspace="4" hspace="4" height="188" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/news.aol.com/political-machine/media/2008/06/ron-paul-calypse-now.jpg" alt="" /><br /><br />I floated the brilliant, but impossible, idea of a <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/04/mccain-s-last-best-hope-ron-paul/">McCain/Paul ticket</a> yesterday. Some Paul supporters have expressed reservation at the gulf between the two candidates on the issues, but that is the key to its brilliance. McCain shores up his maverick image, while Dr. Paul has some real influence over policy. However, with no primaries left, there are very few ways to leverage Dr. Paul's support into serious national coverage. <br /><br />I urged Republicans to e-mail the McCain campaign and suggest Ron Paul as McCain's VP, but who knows how many will do that, and will they listen? I even put <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/03/if-ron-paul-wins-idaho-i-will-get-rp-tattoo/">the tattoo</a> back in play. <br /><br />Then, I saw <a href="http://www.myronpaulblimp.com/">MyRonPaulBlimp.com</a>, and a bolt of lightning struck me again.<br /><br />Update: I got an e-mail from the proprietor of the blimp site, he was very excited. Also, <a href="http://digg.com/political_opinion/ron_paul_calypse_now_fly_a_ron_paul_blimp_at_rnc_9_1_9_4">Digg this story</a> to help it spread faster.<script type="text/javascript"> var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? "https://ssl." : "http://www."); document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='" + gaJsHost + "google-analytics.com/ga.js' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E")); </script><script type="text/javascript"> var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-3712949-1"); pageTracker._initData(); pageTracker._trackPageview(); </script><br /><br />Before I get to my idea, I want to explain that I am not a Ron Paul supporter, in that I would never vote for him. I disagree with him on some <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2007/12/30/ron-paul-for-president-of-what/">very fundamental issues</a>. <br /><br />However, I do find rare and admirable qualities in Dr. Paul, and it is clear that he has been <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/01/08/ron-paul-annihilates-fred-thompson/">unfairly ignored</a> and marginalized. His stance on the Iraq war is courageous, much more so than many Democrats'. <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/02/18/media-cant-ron-paul-barack-obama/">Like Barack Obama</a>, he has an uncanny knack for articulating nuance in ways that defy oversimplification by his opponents. <br /><br />I believe this is because Dr. Paul doesn't rely on talking points, or focus groups. He draws from a well of principles, so he can't be caught off guard, and he can always look you in the eye. <br /><br />His platform is, in fact, a bit too principled, in my view, relying too much on abstract truths rather than practical reality. <br /><br />Even so, the size and intensity of his following belies the amount of media coverage he gets, which keeps it from reaching more people who might otherwise join. When he <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/01/20/shh-ron-paul-places-2nd-in-nevada/">finished 2nd in Nevada</a>, barely a peep was uttered. <br /><br />This is unfortunate, since Ron Paul's influence could go a long way toward pulling the Republican Party away from red meat, and towards core conservative principles, restoring a healthier balance between the two parties. <br /><br />To that end, I suggest Ron-Paul-Calypse Now! The plan is simple, beautiful, and only requires a fraction of the Paul Army to have a huge impact. <br /><br />MyRonPaulBlimp.com sells mini Ron Paul Blimps (not to be confused with Law &amp; Order actor Fred Thompson's "Fred Zeppelins," or the "Huck-enberg"), and they ain't all that mini, measuring 15 to 26 feet in length, depending on how much coin you want to drop. A portion of the proceeds go to the Ron Paul campaign. <br /><br />They're pricey, I'm not gonna lie, but they have some useful suggestions on how to defray the cost. <br /><br />The plan is for massive numbers of Ron Paul blimp owners to descend on Minneapolis for the <a href="http://www.gopconvention.com/about/About_xcel.aspx">Republican National Convention</a>, September 1-4, 2008. I want several thousand Ron Paul mini-blimps to ring the Xcel Energy Center, expanding out like a shock wave, with "Flight of the Valkyries" blaring from every Paulite's car stereo. <br /><br />Even a few hundred would do the trick. You could waste money on millions of mailers and TV commercials, and never get that kind of impact. <br /><br />Democrats, feel free to join in too. You would be contributing to the moderation of the GOP, and you'll end up with a cool blimp. <br /><br />Send this story to all of your friends, Ron Paul meet-ups, message boards, etc., and let's see if we can't get Ron Paul some air support for his convention fight, and leave John McCain rasping into the microphone, "The horror...the horror."<p style="clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;">&nbsp;</p><p><a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/05/ron-paul-calypse-now/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry">Permalink</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/forward/1217028/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email">Email this</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://www.technorati.com/cosmos/search.html?rank=&amp;fc=1&amp;url=http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/05/ron-paul-calypse-now/" title="Linking Blogs">Linking&nbsp;Blogs</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/06/05/ron-paul-calypse-now/#comments" title="View reader comments on this entry">Comments</a></p>]]></description><category>convention</category><category>election</category><category>Iraq</category><category>John McCain</category><category>JohnMccain</category><category>nomination</category><category>operation rondemption</category><category>OperationRondemption</category><category>politics</category><category>president 2008</category><category>President2008</category><category>Republican convention</category><category>RepublicanConvention</category><category>Republicans</category><category>Ron Paul</category><category>RonPaul</category><category>veepstakes</category><dc:creator>Tommy Christopher</dc:creator><dc:date>2008-06-05T16:00:00+00:00</dc:date></item><item><title>Face Off: Should the Delegates Be Seated?</title><link>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/29/face-off-should-the-delegates-be-seated/</link><guid isPermaLink="true">http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/29/face-off-should-the-delegates-be-seated/</guid><comments>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/29/face-off-should-the-delegates-be-seated/#comments</comments><description><![CDATA[<p>Filed under: <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/democrats/" rel="tag">Democrats</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/featured-stories/" rel="tag">Featured Stories</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/2008-president/" rel="tag">2008 President</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/conventions/" rel="tag">Conventions</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/face-off/" rel="tag">Face Off</a></p><div align="center"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/news.aol.com/political-machine/media/2008/05/donkey2.jpg" alt="" /></div>

Despite Hillary Clinton's best attempts, Michigan and Florida will be punished for holding their primaries too early. A memo has been sent to the Rules and Bylaws Committee, which states that, at most, it has the power to seat half of the delegates. The RBC will meet on Saturday to hear what will surely be raucous protest from Hillary Clinton's supporters who want the full delegations sat in their candidate's favor. <br /><br />But for now, anyway, that's not going to happen. From <a href="http://news.aol.com/story/_a/democrats-cant-fully-restore-delegates/20080528064609990001">the AP</a>:<br /><blockquote><br />Democratic National Committee rules require that the two states lose at least half of their convention delegates for holding elections too early, the party's legal experts wrote in a 38-page memo.<br /></blockquote><br />There is one last bastion of hope for Clinton: Denver. <br /><blockquote><br />The analysis also said there is an option to restore 100 percent of the delegation--by a recommendation of the Credentials Committee that meets later this summer. However, that would mean a final decision would not be made until the first day of the convention in Denver, since Credentials Committee decisions have to be approved by the full convention as it convenes--risking a floor fight. <br /></blockquote><br />Before that happens, two things are likely to occur. First, following the conclusion of the final primaries on June 3, a flood of superdelegates will go to Obama, giving him a guaranteed advantage over Clinton whatever is decided with Michigan and Florida. Second, a deal will be reached so as to seat the full delegations come convention time.<p style="clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;">&nbsp;</p><p><a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/28/clinton-setback-on-michigan-and-florida/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry">Permalink</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/forward/1207942/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email">Email this</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://www.technorati.com/cosmos/search.html?rank=&amp;fc=1&amp;url=http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/28/clinton-setback-on-michigan-and-florida/" title="Linking Blogs">Linking&nbsp;Blogs</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/28/clinton-setback-on-michigan-and-florida/#comments" title="View reader comments on this entry">Comments</a></p>]]></description><category>convention</category><category>Credentials Committee</category><category>CredentialsCommittee</category><category>Democratic convention</category><category>DemocraticConvention</category><category>Democrats</category><category>Denver</category><category>DNC</category><category>election</category><category>Florida</category><category>Hillary Clinton</category><category>HillaryClinton</category><category>Michigan</category><category>president 2008</category><category>President2008</category><category>protests</category><category>Rules and Bylaws Committee</category><category>rules committee</category><category>RulesAndBylawsCommittee</category><category>RulesCommittee</category><dc:creator>David Knowles</dc:creator><dc:date>2008-05-28T09:23:00+00:00</dc:date></item><item><title>Denver Struggling to Raise Convention Cash</title><link>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/28/denver-struggling-to-raise-convention-cash/</link><guid isPermaLink="true">http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/28/denver-struggling-to-raise-convention-cash/</guid><comments>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/28/denver-struggling-to-raise-convention-cash/#comments</comments><description><![CDATA[<p>Filed under: <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/democrats/" rel="tag">Democrats</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/2008-president/" rel="tag">2008 President</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/fundraising/" rel="tag">Fundraising</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/conventions/" rel="tag">Conventions</a></p><a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/03/21/denver-low-on-cash-for-dem-convention/">In March</a> we told you about the difficulty Denver was having getting funding for the Democratic Convention in August. The city needs just over $40 million by June 16 and today with little more than two weeks left it's still $15 million <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/28/us/politics/28convention.html?_r=1&amp;oref=login">in the hole</a>. <br /><br />The main reason for the shortfall? Many place the blame on the ongoing nomination battle between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. It seems donors don't want to pony up until they see a resolution. <br /><br />The GOP on the other hand has plenty of cash:<blockquote>The Democrats' situation contrasts markedly with that of the Republicans, whose committee is on budget in its $39 million fund-raising drive for the <a title="More articles about Republican Party" href="http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/organizations/r/republican_party/index.html?inline=nyt-org" linkindex="56" set="yes">Republican National Convention</a>, to be held in Minneapolis-St. Paul on Sept. 1-4. Teresa McFarland, a spokeswoman for the host committee, said it expected to meet its June 15 target of having 80 percent of the money raised by that date.</blockquote>The Denver fundraising committee is scrambling to woo corporate underwriters and is even working up a backup plan in case the convention has to be held on the cheap.<p style="clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;">&nbsp;</p><p><a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/28/denver-struggling-to-raise-convention-cash/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry">Permalink</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/forward/1207831/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email">Email this</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://www.technorati.com/cosmos/search.html?rank=&amp;fc=1&amp;url=http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/28/denver-struggling-to-raise-convention-cash/" title="Linking Blogs">Linking&nbsp;Blogs</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/28/denver-struggling-to-raise-convention-cash/#comments" title="View reader comments on this entry">Comments</a></p>]]></description><category>Barack Obama</category><category>BarackObama</category><category>convention</category><category>Democratic convention</category><category>DemocraticConvention</category><category>Democrats</category><category>Denver</category><category>DNC</category><category>election</category><category>fundraising</category><category>Hillary Clinton</category><category>HillaryClinton</category><category>president 2008</category><category>President2008</category><dc:creator>Christopher Weber</dc:creator><dc:date>2008-05-28T07:46:00+00:00</dc:date></item><item><title>Former Rep. The party convention, held this week in Denver, nominated Barr on the 6th ballot, defeating Mary Ruwart - a research scientist.</p>
<br />
<p>Barr, probably <a target="_blank" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Barr">best known</a> for his role in the Bill Clinton impeachment trial, left the Republican Party in 2006 and shortly thereafter set up an exploratory commission for the 2008 presidential campaign.</p>
<br />
<p>Barr, long a favorite of some conservatives, leads some to think he might pull some votes from John McCain in November. However, since leaving Congress in '03 his personal platform has a decidedly leftist feel. Historically opposed to Bush administration thought on Iraq, Iran and the Patriot Act, Barr has recently joined the ACLU. As a Republican, he too was seen as a maverick, while at the same time his past record of social conservatism seems <a target="_blank" href="http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1808384,00.html?xid=feed-cnn-topics">at odds</a> with traditional Libertarians.</p>
<br />
<p>Barr's nomination brings some much needed attention to this alternative party - perhaps in part why he got the nod over more traditional and long-standing Libertarian Party members. On again-off again Libertarian Ron Paul is perhaps the best known of past party members with former Democratic presidential candidate <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/03/27/it-was-good-to-have-you-mike-gravel/">Mike Gravel</a> as it's newest. Come in, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_of_Tarsus">St. Paul</a>. It seems there may be some trouble brewing for this summer's GOP convention in St. Paul, Minnesota. You see, another Paul is looming large on the horizon, threatening to stir up mischief at the August coronation of John, the would-be Baptist of that new and improved sect of Republicanism--Bush-Lite, for lack of a better term. As Paul's supporters learned from Guy Fawkes, surprise is the name of the game.<br /><br />From <strong><a href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/05/ronpaulgop.html"><em>The LA Times</em></a></strong>:<br /><blockquote><br />Virtually all the nation's political attention in recent weeks has focused on the compelling state-by-state presidential nomination struggle between two Democrats and the potential for party-splitting strife over there. <br /><br />But in the meantime, quietly, largely under the radar of most people, the forces of Rep. Ron Paul have been organizing across the country to stage an embarrassing public revolt against Sen. John McCain when Republicans gather for their national convention in St. Paul at the beginning of September. <br /></blockquote><br />Yes, he was dissed by Fox News, taunted by his rivals, scorned in the press, but Ron Paul is not ready to stop preaching the gospel to his followers. In fact, the proselytizing continues apace, and St. Paul's stage is set to provide the Texas Congressman with ample microphone time.<br /><br />His supporters are quick to add that Paul never actually dropped out of the race. No, he does not walk alone. The secret army continues to grow. Witness the recent protest votes in Indiana, where 23% of Republicans voiced their disaffection with McCain. In North Carolina the number was an even higher 26%. <br /> <br /> Another libertarian messiah-in-waiting, <a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://www.bobbarr2008.com/">Bob Barr</a><span style="font-weight: bold;">,</span> entered the race president <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/12/bob-barr-to-run-for-president/">today</a>, giving the disaffected a glimmer of hope on what, to them, seems a set of woeful ballot choices. <br /> <br /> But back to the Paul faithful. What exactly do Paul's guerrilla warriors plan to do come convention time?<br /><blockquote> <br /> They hope to demonstrate their disagreements with McCain vocally at the convention through platform fights and an attempt to get Paul a prominent speaking slot. Paul, who's running unopposed in his home Texas district for an 11th House term, still has some $5 million in war funds and has instructed his followers that their struggle is not about a single election, but a longterm revolution for control of the Republican Party.<br /></blockquote> <br /> In short, they hope for nothing less that a coup, and we're not talking de Ville, either. And hey, look <a href="http://www.ronpaul2008.com/press-releases/316/ron-paul-1-on-new-york-times-best-seller-list">who's #1</a> on the <em>New York Times</em> Bestseller List. If you thought that Paul and his supporters would simply slip back into the Republican tent and make nice with John McCain, you were a tad mistaken. With all the potential turmoil, it's a good thing that bars will stay open <a href="http://wcco.com/politics/rnc.bar.hours.2.695155.html">until 4 a.m.</a> during the convention. One gets the sense that a few of McCain's supporters will need a good stiff one after dealing with the Paul crowd.<br /><br /><iframe width="300" scrolling="no" height="200" frameborder="0" align="left" src="http://webcenter.polls.aol.com/modular.jsp?template=1381&amp;view=140421&amp;pollId=140568&amp;channel=aol_us_news&amp;popup=yes"></iframe><p style="clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;">&nbsp;</p><p><a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/12/ron-pauls-revenge/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry">Permalink</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/forward/1192733/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email">Email this</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://www.technorati.com/cosmos/search.html?rank=&amp;fc=1&amp;url=http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/12/ron-pauls-revenge/" title="Linking Blogs">Linking&nbsp;Blogs</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/12/ron-pauls-revenge/#comments" title="View reader comments on this entry">Comments</a></p>]]></description><category>conventions</category><category>election</category><category>John McCain</category><category>JohnMccain</category><category>president 2008</category><category>President2008</category><category>Republicans</category><category>revolt</category><category>Ron Paul</category><category>RonPaul</category><category>St. Paul</category><category>St.Paul</category><dc:creator>David Knowles</dc:creator><dc:date>2008-05-12T09:21:00+00:00</dc:date></item><item><title>McCain GOP Convention Chief Short-Lived</title><link>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/11/mccain-gop-convention-chief-short-lived/</link><guid isPermaLink="true">http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/11/mccain-gop-convention-chief-short-lived/</guid><comments>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/11/mccain-gop-convention-chief-short-lived/#comments</comments><description><![CDATA[<p>Filed under: <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/john-mccain/" rel="tag">John McCain</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/2008-president/" rel="tag">2008 President</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/conventions/" rel="tag">Conventions</a></p><p><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="left" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/news.aol.com/political-machine/media/2008/05/rnc-logo1.jpg" alt="" /></p>
<p>Presumptive Republican presidential candidate John McCain's hand-picked choice for convention manager, Doug Goodyear, resigned after Newsweek ran a <a target="_blank" href="http://www.newsweek.com/id/136321">story</a> about his lobbying work and involvement in 527 groups in 2004 that were fined for improprieties.</p>
<br />
<p>McCain has <a target="_blank" href="http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,333010,00.html">denounced</a> 527 groups as recently as this past February.</p>
<br />
<p>Goodyear, CEO of the DCI group, a consulting firm that lobbies for ExxonMobil, General Motors and the military junta that runs that great democracy <strong>Burma</strong>, said in a brief statement, "Today I offered the convention my resignation so as not to become a distraction in this campaign. I continue to strongly support John McCain for president, and wish him the best of luck in this campaign".</p>
<br />
<p>Astonishingly, the McCain campaign's first choice, Paul Manafort, was nixed due to HIS lobbying efforts for foreign heads of state that included Ferdinand Marcos and personal relationship with Russia's Vladmir Putin. The campaign was concerned about the appearance of McCain being to closely tied to Washington lobbyists.</p>
<br />
<p>Does John McCain NOT have anyone close to him that ISN'T a lobbyist? Does his staff need introductory courses on how to vet people? I'm sure they'll run and take my advice, but they might just want to expand their circle of influence before he starts getting called on this stuff in earnest.</p><p style="clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;">&nbsp;</p><p><a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/11/mccain-gop-convention-chief-short-lived/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry">Permalink</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/forward/1192351/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email">Email this</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://www.technorati.com/cosmos/search.html?rank=&amp;fc=1&amp;url=http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/11/mccain-gop-convention-chief-short-lived/" title="Linking Blogs">Linking&nbsp;Blogs</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/05/11/mccain-gop-convention-chief-short-lived/#comments" title="View reader comments on this entry">Comments</a></p>]]></description><category>527s</category><category>Burma</category><category>convention</category><category>Doug Goodyear</category><category>DougGoodyear</category><category>election</category><category>ethics</category><category>John McCain</category><category>JohnMccain</category><category>lobbyists</category><category>Myanmar</category><category>Paul Manafort</category><category>PaulManafort</category><category>president 2008</category><category>President2008</category><category>Republican convention</category><category>RepublicanConvention</category><category>Republicans</category><dc:creator>Denise Williams</dc:creator><dc:date>2008-05-11T16:57:00+00:00</dc:date></item><item><title>Rush Limbaugh Incites a Denver Riot?</title><link>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/25/rush-limbaugh-incites-a-denver-riot/</link><guid isPermaLink="true">http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/25/rush-limbaugh-incites-a-denver-riot/</guid><comments>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/25/rush-limbaugh-incites-a-denver-riot/#comments</comments><description><![CDATA[<p>Filed under: <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/republicans/" rel="tag">Republicans</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/featured-stories/" rel="tag">Featured Stories</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/scandal/" rel="tag">Scandal</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/media/" rel="tag">Media</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/conventions/" rel="tag">Conventions</a></p><img width="225" vspace="4" hspace="4" height="333" border="1" align="right" alt="Rush Limbaugh" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/news.aol.com/political-machine/media/2008/04/79418840.jpg" />Poor <strong>Rush Limbaugh</strong>. Sometimes he just gets ahead of himself. With all that empty airtime to fill, his mouth gets to flapping, and, well, before you know it, he has potentially committed a crime. <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/04/28/national/main1561324.shtml">Another crime</a>, I should say. <br /><br />Today's legal infraction? <a href="http://209.85.207.104/search?q=cache:FmbelhrD0xwJ:www.lrc.ky.gov/KRS/525-00/040.PDF+inciting+a+riot&amp;hl=en&amp;ct=clnk&amp;cd=2&amp;gl=us&amp;client=firefox-a">Inciting a Riot.</a> That's a Class A Misdemeanor and it carries a potential sentence of <a href="http://www.lawyers.com/ask_a_lawyer/q_and_a_archive/view_archive/index.php?QID=12-MAY-03&amp;site=537">5 years in prison</a>. Of course, the riot in question hasn't happened just yet. But now that orders have been sent out to the "Dittoheads" I'm sure it's just a matter of time. <br /><br />From the ABC News <a href="http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/15980105/detail.html">affiliate</a> in Denver:<br /><blockquote><br />Talk show host Rush Limbaugh is sparking controversy again after he made comments calling for riots in Denver during the Democratic National Convention this summer. <br /><br />He said the riots would ensure a Democrat is not elected as president, and his listeners have a responsibility to make sure it happens. <br /><br />"Riots in Denver, the Democrat Convention would see to it that we don't elect Democrats."</blockquote><br />The grammatically-challenged Limbaugh seemed to have been alerted to the fact that what he was suggesting was, in fact, a crime, and then attempted to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbjOrdojVOo">dial it back </a>a bit:<br /> <blockquote><br /> Several callers called in to the radio show to denounce Limbaugh's comments, when he later stated, "I am not inspiring or inciting riots, I am dreaming of riots in Denver."<br /> </blockquote><br /> Hey, whatever it takes. Bash a few skulls, just keep those Dems from re-taking the White House. Even by his own muddled standards, however, this plea to his Republican listeners suffers from an unusually glaring lack of logic. While sending forth his hyper-conservative minions to wreak havoc in the Mile-High City, he assured listeners that:<br /> <blockquote><br /> "There won't be riots at our convention. We don't riot. We don't burn our cars. We don't burn down our houses. We don't kill our children. We don't do half the things the American left does."<br /> </blockquote><br /> So does that mean what happens in Denver, stays in Denver? And speaking as a member of the American Left, I see that I've got a lot of items yet to check off on my list. Note to self: later this afternoon torch the car and the house, and off the kids for good measure. <br /> <br /> Mr. Limbaugh, thanks, as ever, for the entertainment. May it bring you a fresh load of legal trouble!<p style="clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;">&nbsp;</p><p><a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/25/rush-limbaugh-incites-a-denver-riot/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry">Permalink</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/forward/1177492/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email">Email this</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://www.technorati.com/cosmos/search.html?rank=&amp;fc=1&amp;url=http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/25/rush-limbaugh-incites-a-denver-riot/" title="Linking Blogs">Linking&nbsp;Blogs</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/25/rush-limbaugh-incites-a-denver-riot/#comments" title="View reader comments on this entry">Comments</a></p>]]></description><category>convention</category><category>crime</category><category>Democratic convention</category><category>DemocraticConvention</category><category>Denver</category><category>election</category><category>president 2008</category><category>President2008</category><category>Republicans</category><category>riots</category><category>rush limbaugh</category><category>RushLimbaugh</category><category>scandal</category><dc:creator>David Knowles</dc:creator><dc:date>2008-04-25T09:57:00+00:00</dc:date></item><item><title>Florida's Room with a View</title><link>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/02/floridas-room-with-a-view/</link><guid isPermaLink="true">http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/02/floridas-room-with-a-view/</guid><comments>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/02/floridas-room-with-a-view/#comments</comments><description><![CDATA[<p>Filed under: <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/democrats/" rel="tag">Democrats</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/2008-president/" rel="tag">2008 President</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/conventions/" rel="tag">Conventions</a></p>The Sunshine State still doesn't have it made in the shade, but it appears that the Florida delegation is getting closer to a view of the convention proceedings.<br /><br />Today, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, Florida Democratic Chairwoman Karen Thurman and the Florida Congressional delegation, the participants issued a <a href="http://democrats.org/a/2008/04/joint_statement.php">joint statement</a>:<blockquote>We are all committed to doing everything we can to ensure that a Florida delegation is seated in Denver. We all agree that whatever the solution, it must have the support of both campaigns. While there may be differences of opinion in how we get there, we are all committed to ensuring that Florida's delegation is seated in Denver. We're committed to working with both campaigns to reach a solution as soon as realistically possible. We are also laying the groundwork to ensure we win in Florida in November and spent time here today talking about how to do just that. We will continue to work towards a solution to ensure delegates are seated and logistics are in place for a Florida delegation in Denver.<br /></blockquote>Meanwhile, Michigan may be left with a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010TR2N8/ref=dm_mu_dp_trk1">room with a view of the blues</a>.<p style="clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;">&nbsp;</p><p><a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/02/floridas-room-with-a-view/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry">Permalink</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/forward/1156695/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email">Email this</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://www.technorati.com/cosmos/search.html?rank=&amp;fc=1&amp;url=http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/02/floridas-room-with-a-view/" title="Linking Blogs">Linking&nbsp;Blogs</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/02/floridas-room-with-a-view/#comments" title="View reader comments on this entry">Comments</a></p>]]></description><category>conventions</category><category>delegates</category><category>Democrats</category><category>DNC</category><category>election</category><category>Florida</category><category>House</category><category>Howard Dean</category><category>HowardDean</category><category>Karen Thurman</category><category>KarenThurman</category><category>Michigan</category><category>president 2008</category><category>President2008</category><category>primaries</category><dc:creator>Faye Anderson</dc:creator><dc:date>2008-04-02T21:23:00+00:00</dc:date></item><item><title>GOP Shaken, Not Stirred</title><link>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/01/gop-shaken-not-stirred/</link><guid isPermaLink="true">http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/01/gop-shaken-not-stirred/</guid><comments>http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/04/01/gop-shaken-not-stirred/#comments</comments><description><![CDATA[<p>Filed under: <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/republicans/" rel="tag">Republicans</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/featured-stories/" rel="tag">Featured Stories</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/lolection/" rel="tag">LOLection</a>, <a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/category/conventions/" rel="tag">Conventions</a></p><img width="396" vspace="4" hspace="4" height="247" border="1" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/news.aol.com/political-machine/media/2008/04/80288965.jpg" alt="" /><br />Republicans, Now with More Booze! That might well be the slogan for this summer's Republican National Convention in Minneapolis. How else to explain <a href="http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/03/31/lets-par-tay-till-4-am/">the following</a>:<br /><blockquote><br />In a proposal being considered in the Minnesota House, the last call for alcohol would be pushed back two hours from the usual 2 a.m. for all establishments within a 10-mile radius of the convention site...<br /><br />...The change, which would last roughly 11 days and require suspending a state law, would also allow liquor sales on Sundays.<br /></blockquote><br />Strangely, however, when I visited the RNC's convention <a href="http://www.gopconvention.com/about/venueguide.aspx">website</a>, there wasn't a handy list of watering holes. Indeed, repeated attempts at typing in "nightlife" or "martinis" into the provided search fields did not reveal where, exactly, the Grand Old Party would be getting its drink on. Yes, I want to party like it's 1992. <br /><br />And, as everyone knows, Minneapolis is going to be a wild 11-day blowout, seeing as Republicans are so much <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/07/AR2008020701904.html">happier </a>than Democrats, and have <a href="http://www.parapundit.com/archives/002404.html">better sex lives</a>. Turns out it's even <a href="http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-denverdems21mar21,1,3828950.story">bad for Denver</a>, which will host the Dem convention in August. The Mile High City has to drum up over $40 million dollars by June 16 and it's having a tough time. This week it missed its second fundraising deadline. The reason the money is coming in so slowly, says Mayor John Hickenlooper, is potential donors don't like confusion and are distracted by the tight Democratic race.<blockquote>"I think there's still so much focus around who the candidate will be that it is hard for people" to focus on the convention, he said.<br /> <br /> If the Democrats already had a nominee, "everybody would be focusing on 'How can we make it a great convention?' " he said.</blockquote>Of course, the struggling economy doesn't help the situation. <br /><br />Oddly, some analysts say if it becomes clear that the race between Clinton and Obama is going to go all the way to the convention, donors will begin to open their wallets. That's because then all eyes will be on Denver and everyone will want a ringside seat for the battle royale.<p style="clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;">&nbsp;</p><p><a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/03/21/denver-low-on-cash-for-dem-convention/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry">Permalink</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/forward/1145925/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email">Email this</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://www.technorati.com/cosmos/search.html?rank=&amp;fc=1&amp;url=http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/03/21/denver-low-on-cash-for-dem-convention/" title="Linking Blogs">Linking&nbsp;Blogs</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/03/21/denver-low-on-cash-for-dem-convention/#comments" title="View reader comments on this entry">Comments</a></p>]]></description><category>conventions</category><category>Democrats</category><category>Denver</category><category>election</category><category>fundraising</category><category>president 2008</category><category>President2008</category><dc:creator>Christopher Weber</dc:creator><dc:date>2008-03-21T11:14:00+00:00</dc:date></item></channel></rss>
