Videos of the Week - PUMA Powered Edition

By Tommy Christopher

Jul 20th 2008 11:10AM

Filed Under: Hillary Clinton, John McCain, Videos of the Week

Welcome to an all-new Videos of the Week. I've been writing about PUMA all week (click here if you missed it), so it seemed natural to dedicate this week's VOTW to the passionate former Clinton supporters, and their wayward sister, The Anti PUMA.

This is a surprisingly rich topic, but I also saved room for some new hilarity from Barely Political, more McCain madness, The Onion gets in on the values voter issue, and an outbreak of substance on The View.

First up is a clip of a PUMA rally in San Francisco. I'm sure you would agree, aside from badly needing some chanting lessons, the PUMAs put on a good show.

Welcome to an all-new Videos of the Week. These really are the dog days of summer, but for those of you who have the good grace to stay inside and click away on your computer during your stay-cation, I salute you.

Our first video is just about the best excoriation of Fox that I've seen this side of Brave New Films. It's also the flyest, dopest commentary of the year. Here's Nas droppin' political science on us with "Sly Fox."

Welcome to Videos of the Week, and sorry for my absence these past several weeks. It is good to be back, even if it is during a slow-as-molasses news week.

Because it has been such a slow week, this will be a shorter than usual VOTW. For the same reason, our lead video this week is a compilation of Election 2008 web videos, put together by PoliticsTV.com.

Videos of the Week -- The Return of Gore

Welcome to Videos of the week. I'm Jay Allbritton, filling in for Tommy Christopher who's on special assignment.

Yesterday former Bush Administration Press Secretary Scott McClellan took his book tour to Congress. Republican Representative Steve King was waiting there to tell McClellan that he should just shut his mouth about the Bush administration.

On Thursday Michelle Obama dropped in on the fine ladies over at The View. Obama says she's focused more on taking care of her kids than she is on the campaign and that she will have no input on the selection of Barack Obama's running mate.

Videos of the Week - Hillary's Swan Song

Welcome to Videos of the Week. The big story this week is, of course, Hillary Clinton's non-concession Tuesday, her concession Saturday, and everything in between. I'll have lots of clips on that, but I wanted to lead off with a different Hillary-related clip, from the Pennsylvania Primary event in Philadelphia. It's a VOTW Exclusive World Premiere!

I'm not going to re-post the entire concession speech, but you can watch it here.

On the night of the PA primary, my regular video camera punked out on me halfway through, so when Gwen here burst into the press room, singing Hillary's praises, all I had was my cellphone. The rest of the reporters shushed her rudely, but I wanted to hear what she had to say. I wanted to capture that excitement that draws odd stares from the "Grey Poupon" politterati. Today was the first time I've watched it, and although it was funnier than I remembered, it is no less moving in its depiction of Gwen's affection for Hillary.

Videos of the Week - Pfun With Pfleger

Welcome to Videos of the Week. There was a lot going on this week, with Scott McClellan's bombshells dropping daily, Ron Paul feeling the "Operation RonDemption Bump," the historic first use of the phrases "Live Coverage" and "Rules & Bylaws" in the same sentence, but the spectacle du week was Chicago's own Priesty the Clown, Father Michael Pleger.

Sharp-eyed Videos of the Week viewers will recognize the padre from a few weeks ago, when we featured his uber-reasonable placement in perspective of the Reverend Wright affair. Now, it seems, he's in need of a little perspective himself.

I also want to give a special "Thank you" to Katherine (aka Kat) for pointing the way to several of our videos this week. Now, here's Father Mike:

Videos of the Week - Sharon Stone Cold

Welcome to the regular edition of Videos of the Week, Memorial Day Edition. I posted a special VOTW yesterday, rounding up videos related to Hillary Clinton's remarks about Bobby Kennedy's assassination. I won't duplicate any of those here, so check that post out if you missed it.

This week on VOTW, John McCain vs. John McCain, then vs. Ellen, a really strict diet,

This first clip is unbelievable, as Sharon Stone shows as flawed an understanding of Karma as I've ever seen, but simultaneously refers to the persecution of Tibetans as "not being nice."

Videos of the Week: RFK Remarks Roundup

Welcome to Videos of the Week Sneak Peek. This week, the elephant in the room is Hillary Clinton's reference to the Bobby Kennedy assassination on Friday. There is a lot of video content surrounding this, so I'm going to collect much of it here, then do the rest of the VOTW on Monday, May 26. The written reactions are available here, and RFK, Jr.'s statement is included in my original story.

When the story first broke, I delivered an emotional and scathing rebuke of Senator Clinton's remarks. However, I also made allowances for the fact that the cold light of day might change, somehow, my impressions and analysis. I was correct. Since Friday, a lot of context has been added to these remarks, and their impact on the presidential race.

This collection of videos will, hopefully, provide that context, and I will elaborate, as we proceed, on the ways in which it has colored my views on this. First, the comments in question, made Friday, May 23, to the Argus Leader editorial board.

Videos of the Week - 'Unseen' O'Reilly Meltdown

Good evening, and welcome to Videos of the Week Sneak Peak. I'm publishing our lead video today, and the rest of VOTW on Sunday.

I'm trying a new format for VOTW, since many of you have let me know that the main page loads slowly with so many embedded videos. I've broken VOTW down into different pages. Just click the link at the bottom of each pae to continue.

By now, many of you have seen the now-infamous Billo meltdown from his days at Inside Edition, but the folks at Barely Political have procured the missing footage of the producer that Bill is yelling at.

Updated for Sunday: This week, we have "Sweetie-gate," McCain vs. McCain, lots more live news meltdowns, Hillary Clinton making a statement about Ted Kennedy, Brooke Shields explains genetics, and more.

Videos of the Week - Obama Gaffe Added

By Tommy Christopher

May 11th 2008 5:00PM

Filed Under: Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Videos of the Week

Good morning, and welcome again to Videos of the Week. The big story this week was, of course, the virtual coronation of Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee. We have a couple of clips related to the making of that sausage, plus a few morsels of John McCain, a couple of cool tricks, and a Mike Gravel chaser.

Before we get to those, I just want to quickly plug Political Machine reader Tom Fitzsimmons' satire work over at The Specious Report, and at Daily Kos. Drop in there, laugh it up, and leave him a good rating, won't you?

By popular demand, I am adding the Obama 59 state gaffe, right after the jump.

Leading off this week is a video from my buddy Cenk at The Young Turks. For reasons that will be obvious later, I'm going to tell you nothing about it.
