The Lion Returns

Sen. Ted Kennedy surprised his colleagues in Congress by showing up for a vote on Medicare legislation. It was his first appearance on the Hill since undergoing surgery for brain cancer two months ago. His family was worried the trip would be too much for the ailing senator, but Kennedy insisted on casting the vote because of a promise he made to seniors and veterans. (The measure, which blocks a cut in payments to doctors, moved past a procedural hurdle, 69-23.) Here's Kennedy's statement. The floor erupted into cheers and applause when a smiling Kennedy arrived, walking under his own power and giving thumbs up. He was accompanied by members of his family and Sen. Barack Obama and greeted warmly by lawmakers from both sides of the aisle.
Obama Embarrassed by Americans
But as RedState notes, the kicker for me is when Obama says he is embarrassed by Americans. Now, I understand the point he is making, but considering the plight of the Dixie Chicks, and his wife (being proud of America for the first time) the words embarrassment and America should not be in the same paragraph in any of his speeches. I'm becoming more and more of the opinion that Obama does not do well off the cuff.
On the English only stuff, it's not something I ever worry about. English is the most dynamic dominant global language the human race has ever seen. I wouldn't worry about it, English will take care of itself. That being said, since I already know the most important language to know, why take the time to learn another language?*
*In anticipation of the likely comments, this part was tongue in cheek.
