Jenna Bush's Beautiful Wedding Heals America

By Ken Layne

Ken Layne's OutrageOn a lovely spring Saturday in Texas, just as the sun set, Jenna Bush had her wedding at her father's prop "ranch" in Crawford. And for that special moment -- or at least a day later, when the White House released some nice pictures from the exclusive event -- America was one nation again.

Since the divisive election of 2000 that led to the heartbreaking recount in Florida, there have been Two Americas, and the angry middle-class and working-class people of this large nation have been unable to agree on anything for any reason.

But our horrible, maddening first eight years of this awful century were all forgotten for a brief, beautiful moment over the weekend, when George W. Bush Junior's daughter was married to this one guy, Henry Hager.

Every Bride Is Beautiful

In a pristine escape from the political circus of Washington, the Bush family celebrated the wedding of daughter Jenna this past Sunday. Nuptials were exchanged (of course) at the President's ranch in Texas. The private event was demurely elegant and classically charming - as revealed through a handful of photos released by the family.

The bride was beautiful.

P.S. When asked if he'd been up late partying, the president merely winked and went on his way.

Jenna Bush Not So Sure of McCain

In the world of First Daughters, Chelsea Clinton has been getting a lot of attention during this Laura Bush (left) and Jenna Bushelection season, deservedly so. However, Jenna Bush may have just put herself on the national radar with an exchange on Larry King Live. The Newark Examiner reports:
Speaking on Larry King Live last night, first daughter Jenna Bush, who appeared alongside first lady Laura Bush, confessed that she's not sure if she'll vote for the presumptive Republican nominee for president, Sen. John McCain, and even left open the possibility that she'd support either Sen. Barack Obama or Sen. Hillary Clinton.
KING: Do you have a favorite between the two, the two Democrats?

LAURA BUSH: My favorite is the Republican.

KING (pointing to Jenna): Yours too, I would imagine.

JENNA BUSH: I don't know.

KING: A-ha! Are you open to...

JENNA BUSH: Yeah, of course. I mean, who isn't open to learning about the candidates and I'm sure that everybody's like that.
While Jenna isn't exactly out stumping for Hillary or Barack, a vote of no confidence from her could hurt McCain in the general election, where disengaged voters are swayed by watercooler topics like this.

Still, a Jenna-Chelsea double-team isn't as far-fetched as it seems.

While no major revelations -- like beer-pong strategies -- were dished in Jenna Bush's Larry King interview Wednesday, and while there were no special appearances by Liza Minnelli or Jerry Lewis or Joe Paterno, the exchange nevertheless exposed the scintillating fact that Jenna and her sister Barbara, while twins, do not actually happen to look alike. Here's a hodgepodge of excerpts.

On Twins:

KING: What was it like growing up as a twin?

J. BUSH: Incredible. It was so incredible.... We never played tricks, really. But we had fun together.

KING: Well, you're fraternal, right?

J. BUSH: Yes. We couldn't look any more different.

KING: So that's a big difference.

J. BUSH: Yes.

KING: If you were identical...

J. BUSH: We could play some tricks.
