Why not feed them all the powdered stuff. Since they are getting the meat or meat proteins in the peanut butter, then they are eating better and with the cable t.v's they are living in the lap of luxury compared to what some of our soldiers are getting in Iraq and Afganistan. I think Sherrif Joe out in Maricopa Co. has the right idea. Tents and pink underwear. But I think they should only get 2 changes of clothes wear one wash one. Since when is cable t.v. and air conditioning a right? They want to eat then they should work. They choose not to do the work then they should starve like the rest of us would if we chose not to work.

ummm... I'm 32 and a college student. I have to pay all my own bills. I buy in bulk and spend about $4.50 per day on myself, sometimes less. I think I eat pretty well, I'm sure I eat a lot better than inmates do. $1.75 a day per inmate sounds pretty good to me. They are in jail for a reason and don't deserve higher priced meals. Steak, chicken breast, milk and things like that should not be served to them. Let them have powdered eggs, powdered milk, and dry beans. Tax payers are having to pay for these people's wrongs... and that is wrong. Make them grow their own vegetables. My parents do it to save money for themselves, prisoners are no better.

1.75 is too much.

Doesn't anyone get the main point? These sheriffs are using our natural resources wisely! Using leftovers instead of tossing them; using things as efficiently is possible. That's how we take care of the planet we've been entrusted with.

Some things in the south simply never change! Watch the movie BRUBAKER with Robert Redford.
There needs to be an investigation into this type of money activity.
And to you people who are bad mouthing inmate food and etc, be careful for what you wish for because it is very easy to be arrested, convicted and sent to the same jails these people are in now. Enjoy the food while you are there too!

that's one way to deal with the overrun at the local animal shelter...no stray dogs or cats in those counties.

snooprvm 12:37:28 AM May 17 2008

Why don't they feed the prisoners meat from roadkills ( cheaper ). That is what Sheriff Arpaio in Maricopa County does in Arizona. Rattlers are in season---plenty of protein--savings for the taxpayers.

Taxpayers pay for criminals (convicted ones in prison) to get degrees, have better helath care than the average working citizen can afford, free laundry service, TV, cable, gym equipment, 3 meals a day and a place to sleep. And most of them do not work as trusties. Iamgine how much better if we spent that kind of money on schools and made inmates hold bakes sales and craft bazzars to raise money. Make them build planters out of scrap lumber and grow some of their own food. In many states a person caught poaching goes to jail. And guess where the meat from the animal they poached goes? Yes..the jail. Lousy deterrent, isn't it?

Yep...it's the south. Good ole backward South. What could you expect? Why doesn't the Federal Government just take over those states...scrap um, and start all over. The South is such an embarrassment to the United States.

they need to feed these people right i'm sorry criminal or no criminal people need to eat or they died okay i rather pay for food with my tax money then a law suit when these inmates die of stravion
