And yet Americans still pay vast amounts for illegal drugs, porn, and gambling. Huge amounts, too. I guess the worst thing is when the price of gas cuts into "recreational" spending like this, huh?

These Oil Executives have got to be the second biggest bunch of liars in Washington, only behind, the two biggest, and the guys most responsible for the raping of the consumers in this Country...George Bush, and Dick Cheney...

Oooh, the big bad Congress wants to know why gas is so high! What are they going to do about it, slap the hands of Big Oil and tell them to reform? Gas prices are high for the same reason electricity went through the roof in CA a few years back - market manipulation. We had Enron to thank for that, but only ourselves to thank for our dependence on fossil fuels 35 years after the Saudis held us hostage. 35 wasted years and nothing to show for it but more contracts with people who hate us and teach that hatred to their children in schools.

DISHONEST LIBERALS (GEE THATS REDUNDANT) CAUSED HIGH FUEL PRICES BY RESTRICTING DRILLING, BILKING THE PUBLIC WITH GLOBAL WARMING, AND NOW ARE BLAMING IT ON THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE INDUSTRY RUN. WHAT THE HELL HAVE ANY OF THOSE SENATORS EVER DONE BESIDES CAUSE TROUBLE?

END THE SPECULATION WITH OIL PRICES- IT'S THE SOLUTION

These big "monsters" are contributing to make a more powerful Russia, a strongest Chavez …. and are helping to increase all the prices making every day harder the life of American and World people.... End the speculation with Oil prices would be the real solution... Otherwise, we would forget the big economical cataclysm of 1929. It would look as a small turbulence compared with the next economical and financial Big- Bang to come…

Google "algae into oil" and see how many links you get. Private industry and entrepreneurs are desperately trying to fund what the majority of Americans just won't - a national solution to fossil fuel dependence. One that will destroy the power structures of oil nations like the Saudis, which wouldn't be a bad thing for the Saudi people.

Real alternative energies are something we could develop, patent, and sell to the world. Imagine poor Third World countries free of the lure of China and petroleum companies that support dictators and juntas. Why are we not working towards this kind of revolution?

PCHMIKE63 -- You are right on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The dummies in this country who will not allow us to develop our oil fields, nor build refineries, nor build nuclear power plants, are to blame for this.

Only the scientifically ignorant think petroleum is an infinite resource. Your grandkids won't be referring to you as the Greatest Generation for wanting to remain dependent on fossil fuels.

geetarwhiz 09:14:19 PM May 21 2008

What do you exxpect when you voted 2 oil guys to run this country? That they'd use their influcence to lower oil prices because they care about the American people. HA!

dotayer 09:13:42 PM May 21 2008

SCREW THE PRIVATE OIL COMPANIES....YOU WANT TO WIN? THE STATES ARE FINANCIALLY DEPENDING ON THE REVENUE THEY RECEIVED FROM TAXES YOU PAY IN FUEL.

STATES RECEIVED TWICE AS MUCH PROFIT AS THE PRIVATE OIL COMPANIES.

QUIT DRIVING. THAT WILL SCREW THE GREEDY STATES.
