Why does it take our companies so long to adjust to the changing conditions?Japanese companies respond to market conditions in a matter of months. Our companies take years. No wonder foreign cars dominate the market. They also dominate Consumer Report's best cars.

If the Governemt still used the original Gross National Product rules, this nation would have sunk to near Third World economic status....but "Gross Domestic Product" included every financial transaction from paying your utility bills insurance payments and payouts, buying movie tickets, phone service, trading stocks, lawsuit payments, advertising revenue, and buying Chinese made junk. The United States today produces less in tangible goods then France, South Africa, Brazil, or Indonesia.

The UAW demaned and received wage and benefit increases for many years that were based on seniority and not on job performance or QUALITY. This resaulted in cars of poor quality and cost of labor being too high. The Big Three responded by having to move production out of the country. When you buy a new American car today, $3000.00 is added to the top of the price of the car to pay UAW retiree benefits because the UAW depleted the retiree trust fund. Don't blame me if I finally have to buy Honda!

There is not much we can do for we are the problem. We flock to the stores and buy everything made in foreign countries sending our dollars overseas and paying interest on the debt. It is too bad Ford and GM spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on lobbying to try and not have our Government dictate more fuel efficient cars. If Ford just allowed the Government to have 35 mile per gallon cars/trucks then maybe they would not be in such a mess. Maybe Ford should send all their lobbyiests packing.
