dtwoleftfeet 10:07:57 AM Jul 06 2008 Report This! Germany wants a long-term plan to increase food production. This is the same country that starved concentration camp inmates 60 years ago??? Dear G-8, Ihave been around long enuff to recognize that over the decades, the more food aid we provide to 3rd world countries, the only outcome is they produce a larger population that need to be fed. China worked ite way out of hat problem by controlling he number of children allowed. Yet when I read in the newspaper that a mother in Haiti is struggling to feed her 6 children, i discover a real shortage of sympathywe should back off being so generous and take care of our own problems. Why is the USA expected to foot the majority of the food bills?

Good call dtwoleftfeet. But I will go a bit further. Are we not as guilty with our welfare system and entitlement programs? As a cop for 31 years I have seen far to many over populated famillies with far more kids then they could ever hope to care for. And the unwed mothers with the fathers who enjoy the process but not the responsibility of caring for the children. Thats assuming they know who the father is! I have seen to many people with the attitude of the governnment will provide. The more kids I have the bigger the check. Its time to look within to examine the problem. I have seen it first hand and it makes me sick!

Good call dtwoleftfeet! But I will go a bit further. Are we not just as guilty here with our welfare system and entitlement programs? As a cop for over 31 years I saw more families then I would like to mention with more kids then they could ever hope to care for. The unwed mothers, The youths fathering children they have no intention of caring for and the total dependance on society to kiss their asses and take care of them. We need look no further then the mirror for the problem.

The economic model we have been using is unsustainible. The republicans have pretty much proven that letting the market decide is not in the best interests of the economy or national security. We need to completely rethink some of our assumptions. If the democrats are not up to the task a new party will emerge. Hopefully progressive forces will lead the country to a new sustainible prosperity not tied to and relient upon cheap fossil fuels for energy.

The foreclosure crisis and decline in housing was NOT an un-planned event. Few realize that the USa has lost its position of power after 30 years of giving and helping everyone except our own nation. A handful of the worlds biggest banks called their loans due to the smaller banks which caused an ripple effect and the law makers stood by and now blame the brokers and the banks that offered the loan programs of the largest banks. Consumers demanded many of these dangerous loans, becaus ethey offered such low payments. Wall Street knew this would not last, but they also knew they could create a money monopoly in the process. As the financial crisis widened most sources of mortgage funds was diverted by these same banks into buying the world commoditties. When money was being invested in hedge funds by the biggest banks real estate boomed, now its oil as they are bent on devaluing home prices. This is no secret. This how 2 years ago they could predict there would be two million foreclosure

Bush made a comment at the G-8 conference " Every industrialized nation has a duty to send more food and goods to these poor nations"....that would include the USA at this time...hell, just keep our own stuff and support your own people !!! there has never been so many homeless, working poor, and hungry people in the 200 plus years of this nation's history (as an average) charity starts at home...then, and only then...give when we are able...

When the Fed lowered the interest rate they charge banks how many of you got a lower fixed rate on your mortgage? I do not know anyone who did. I know that I did not get a raise or offers to consolidate my credit card debt at non-usurous rates. I did get inflation. So where do you think that the money that the Fed released went? Do you think that it is possible that money is now being used to speculatively run up the price of food, oil and hence your gasoline in the commodities markets? Just asking.
