I definetly don't believe in torturing defenseless animals but I also am appauled at the killing of an innocent unborn child who can not speak for itself. The pain that baby must sustain because it is an inconvenience to someone. God Bless.

I think it should be a felony in all states and countries too. Poor little defensless animals cant fight back most of the time. It is terrible to torture and kill any animal for the fun of it. Maybe if we started prosucuting these people they would think twice about doing this

Theoregondream, Utah has absolutely no tolerance for rape or torture or cults for that matter. If it is ever found to be true it will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Check the facts before bashing a state. They care for all creatures even people like you who hate.

Lest we get carried away here, may I point out that people who torture and mistreat animals are dangerous people? Psychiatrists know that kids who are cruel to animals grow up to be criminals. So, holier-than thou people, try to grasp the concept. You are stewards of the earth and creation, so take care of it. And stop triangulating the thing to bring in your other gripes, be ithey pro choice vs pro life or mustard vs catsup. Really. Get a grip!

I think this is great! The other 6 states where it is currently not a felony should follow Utah's example and jump on board and pass a similar law. Having 4 cats currently, and many others in the past, I'm a big advocate for punishing people who hurt animals. They might not be as intelligent as us, or speak, but that doesn't mean that when they're hurt they don't cry out in pain, or recognize when a human is being cruel to them.
Also, another good thing about this law is that most people who become murderers start off with torturing animals. If we catch them early we may just be able to stop them from hurting humans, or at least make it easier to catch them if they do, because they would have a felony on their record.

Ronpen, they're talking about malicious torture of an animal, that doesn't include things like accidently hitting a dog or cat with your car, or having to shoot or kill a vicious dog in self defense.
