MonroeLaw - you are absolutely correct. Yes, he is 81 and (presumably) near death. But the fact remains that he never served his time. What good does his imprisonment serve? It is a deterrent to all other would-be escapees. What message does it send to prisoners that if they escape, and elude authorities long enough, that all will be OK and they will receive forgiveness? This is one more example of how people in the USA want NO accountability for their actions. Some of these posts supporting this convicted felon are just as bad.

"RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - An ailing 81-year-old North Carolina man who escaped from a Maryland prison 43 years ago was taken into custody Friday to face extradition, a move his attorneys decried as a waste of time because he is ill and aging."
Last time I checked, that wasn't a defense in either North Carolina or Maryland. This guy has had 43 years of freedom during which he got to enjoy the healthy years he should have been in prison. He was convicted of robbery with a deadly weapon, he's not the victim here.

Its just so stupid and a total waste of money - with no benefit to anyone.

What a waste of good money to lock him up - what will it do for anyone at this point ?
