I agree with momdadpuds, being a retired vet and still working on getting my retirement, and helping my son through college a full ride is not really what these guy need. Not only do they not need it but the tax payers wont want to fund it. Giving a free ride just because your a vet doesn't mean you served in any war. A vet could be discharged after a year and get a general discharge. And now you want to pay their way through college. That a great incentive, join the military spend a few month and we will pay your way though college. We have to drawl the line somewhere. I agree we need to update funding but that is to much for just being a vet.

I agree with you 100% on your assessment. It was not untill the old timers died off or we started out numbering them that we became equals at a VFW post.

Believe it or not, I'm STILL a member of VFW (Post 2500 in Hollywood, FL.) Haven't been there since the year 2000. Hopefully, some day they'll make changes to attract us VN vets, and also welcome, with open arms, our Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.

I am retired military and a Vietnam vet. I cannot beleive some of these vets who are stating these new war veterans should not receive full tuition benefits. The original concept of the GI Bill was to give servicemen that fought in a war full tuition, lower interest mortgages and much more. I am especially angry at my brother Vietnam veterans on this post that state they are against full benefits. We came home fron Nam being called everything under the son because we did our duty as soldiers. All we had was the GI Bill to fall back on. Well these soldiers who have risks their lives because they are doing their duty in another unpopular was derserve the same GI benefits given to us.
You should all be ashamed of yourselves and do not deserve to be called VIETNAM VETS.

What on earth are you talking about? ALL "honorably" separated/discharged military veterans are eligible, and welcome to become a members of the American Legion.
To become a member of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) however, you must have served overseas, in a combat zone.
Personally, why waste your money and time with them. As a former Vietnam combat veteran, I can tell you that, back then both organizations, at least the ones I visited, refused to recognized us as "equals." My impression? They were nothing more than a clique for WWII veterans.
Guess everybody, including them -- HATED US.

Report This! I'm more worried about 4 more years of a republican president than terrorists!!!
This is the kind of statments you get from allowing Democrats to have children and then locking them in the closet!!

I too think America can not take another 4 years of Rep. In office. It scares me to read his Mccains cold blunt statements in all aspects of his views..... "Senator McCain" an announcer concludes, "we respect your service. Please respect ours."
WTF is up with that... what services should we respect from you MCCAin? look at how we treat our military after they come home, even when they are gone! BS! This man needs to get shot for his one minded thinking, then again, maybe he knows he sucks and will NEVER be president so he's just saying shit to be remembered!
