The new Democratic congressman from Mississippi is going to be part of a new breed of southern politician the "New South" Republicans fear the most. A local conservative on social matters, but a populist who votes with a decidedly left of center national Democratic party.
With Obama in the White House having got there because he turned out millions of minority voters (blacks and desperately poor whites) with a neo-populist message, the south may well revert to what it was before the Dewey and Eisenhower era of the late 1940s and early 50s. Enligtened moderate socially conservative Democrats with bibles in hand, but voting for national health insurance in Congress. Interesting how history can repeat itself. Who says "there's no going home?".

Report This! This Is A Real Bad Sign For The Republicans....This Was A District That Went 60% Plus For Bush In 00 And 04 And Tjhe Republicans Ran A media Blitz Linking The Democrat ,Childers, To Obama ANDRev. Wright..And Still Got Stomped....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------That is precisely why Davis "got stomped". The Republicans dipped deep into their latrine of smear and scare tactics which they always do when they're over confident, or frightened they'll lose. Mississippi Republicans were STUPID. Just as the rest of the party is STUPID for nominating that demented boyscout from Arizona.

With former Georgia Congressman Bob Barr running as the Libertarian Party presidential candidate in November, he could easily split the conservative vote throughout the south. Giving the election to not only Barak Obama, but Democrats running on Obama's coattails. Minority voters who have never voted or rarely go to the polls, will be turning out by the millions to turn out of office neocon reactionaries supporting Bush's pinup boy, John McCain.
This election may well spell the demise of the solid Republican South which started under Thomas E. Dewey and Dwight Eisenhower. Reaganism and Bushitism will be dead.
Obama's victory will be historic ,but it won't end there. The end of southern "New South" Republicanism will be even more historic and momentous.

Five months is an eternity in politics - ask Hillary. A shoo in in January and now fighting for survival. These replacement elections are a minuscule amount of voters and this one was decided within the margin of error.
Get all gleeful - reality strikes in November - he still has to defend the seat.

Should of, could of, and would of. Maybe so, but that's not what is happening. I am glad to see that the Democrats are winning back seats in congress. Go Democrats!
clevesgirl 10:28:01 AM May 14 2008
Why should Hillary give up? Why does the Dems support a man who I have yet to hear where he stands on any issue? I guess the Dems just want to make it EASY for Obama, right?
I believe Hillary should win.
