Myanmar still will not accept US aid workers

YANGON, Myanmar (AP) - The top U.S. diplomat in Myanmar says the junta is not ready to accept American aid workers to help cyclone survivors.

Shari Villarosa, the U.S. charge d'affairs in Yangon, said she met with Myanmar Deputy Foreign Minister Kyaw Thu on Friday to discuss American relief operations.

Myanmar says it will accept aid from all countries, but prohibits the entry of foreign workers who would deliver and manage the operations.

Villarosa said she was told the junta is "not ready" to change that position.

The U.S. can only offer to help those in need. If they choose not to accept it, then they are the ones who will ulltimately suffer the consequences.

they don't want americans coming to their country and telling them what to do...... it's totally understandable

Our country would not accept help during Katrina, medical ships from Cuba sat off shore when they were neeed but our country would not accept help. Many more examples could be made and New Orleaneans died because our country was so damn selfish, it was not the ones in charge, so why help when we did not want others on our shore, why do we not expect the same form other countries, our people needed help but our country would not permit it.

Talk about a government who put themselves ahead of their people! I think they're afraid that their people might see something good about other countries. Not to mention that they most likely want to make sure a lot of aid goes directly in their own pockets. There are some people as well as countries that you just can't help no matter how good your intentions are.

Of course they dont want others coming in and making sure the people who need it get it
