Myanmar still will not accept US aid workers

Associated Press

YANGON, Myanmar (AP) - The top U.S. diplomat in Myanmar says the junta is not ready to accept American aid workers to help cyclone survivors.

Shari Villarosa, the U.S. charge d'affairs in Yangon, said she met with Myanmar Deputy Foreign Minister Kyaw Thu on Friday to discuss American relief operations.

Myanmar says it will accept aid from all countries, but prohibits the entry of foreign workers who would deliver and manage the operations.

Villarosa said she was told the junta is "not ready" to change that position.

Report This! manms0808 Yes the most giving nation in the world sucks. It sucks to be an American. Here's an idea, let the rest of the world take care of themselves. Keep all our money in this country. Let the other nations of the world become big boys and be responsible for THEIR own problems. Might just make this crappy country even better. Better schools, better economy, bet we could throw up a fence or two and keep illegals out. Less welfare, less food stamps, sounds like a good plan to me.

get out of america. PERIOD. you dont deserve to be here

Perhaps we should help people in this country first, then worry about someone elses problems

It is their choice to not allow the so-called aid workers in. Initially they didn't even want the aid but realized that the aid would help the people whereas the aid workers will not. Let's face it it will be a bunch of missionaries trying to trade Jesus talk for essentials. I don't think Jesus did that; he fed the poor whether they listened to what he was preaching or not; that is the nature of charity and compassion.

thier not stupid they know america sucks..who would deliver and mangage operations..before you know it the U.S. would take them over too..thats it dont let them in..thier help is not for real anyway

You cannot force people to accept your help.

If my husband were President of the U.S., and that country needed aid and aid workers, I would contact the First Lady of Myanmar (with my husband's knowledge, of course), and talk to her First Lady to First Lady, and ask if she can get permission to allow American aid workers to lend assistance if I come and work beside them until we leave Myanmar. And it would be awesome if she and I worked together some, too, helping the people. Sometimes men and politics just get in the way.
