How about a broader statement encouraging the critical thinking skills and rational approach to relieving human and other species' suffering? Or maybe even a change from the current policy banning birth control technologies? Or a change in which the church at a MINIMUM would "allow" condom use between MARRIED couples when one has AIDS? Future historians may look at the Catholic Church dogma against birth control the way "moderns" look at genocide and the Holocaust....a preventable tragedy brought about by authoritarian thinking and unquestioning obediance to those in power.The real violence that occurs in religious wars is violence against the enlightenment values. Sure, any geezer with a pointy hat can condemn violence. Is this major news we are to be impressed with? Give me a freakin break...Let's see this "infallible" fellow make some real change to the Medieval and archaic institution known as the "church."Rudi HoffmanPort Orange, FL

Pope-ey,--Didn't the Papacy order the slaughter of 5 million, including women and children in thre "Csthar" movement ? How about the Christian Arians? Didn'tPope Innocent request that Clovis slay King lric ll oin order to stop the rin Christians. Is there no cause for violence ever except yours ?
