The Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee received
an executive branch communication from the Federal Housing Finance
Board, chaired by John T. Korsmo (R) in 2003 which relaxed the
lending criteria for sub-prime mortgages. So subprime rules were
relaxed when the Republicans chaired the board, committee and
were the majority in Congress.
John T. Korsmo (R), went on to plead guilty to making false statements
to a Senate committee and an Inspector General who were looking into
Korsmo's participation in a republican fundraising event in October 2002,
the same month he was appointed to the Board.

The headline on this story is the quintessential example of the AP's leftist bias. They have joined the rest of the drive-by media in talking down the economy for eight years. Housing ********** a two-year record, fantastic economic news, but instead of just repoting the news they tack on "outlook still shaky." It would be different if they did such a thing occasionally but the fact is they never repot positive economic data without adding irrelevant and untrue superfluous negative opinions.
