Is It a Bird? Is It a Plane? No, It's a Baby

WELLINGTON (Aug. 8) - A New Zealand couple is looking to call their newborn son Superman -- but only because their chosen name of 4Real has been rejected by the government registry.

Pat and Sheena Wheaton say they will get around the decision by the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages by officially naming their son Superman but referring to him as 4Real, the New Zealand Herald newspaper has reported.

The Wheatons decided on the name after seeing the baby for the first time in an ultrasound scan and realizing their baby was "for real."

They decided 4Real was the best way to write it, but the name was rejected because the registrar said a name had to be a sequence of characters.

Pat Wheaton said he was considering appealing the decision through the courts, but whatever happens he won't be budged on his choice.

"No matter what, it's going to stay 4Real," Wheaton told the Herald, "I'm certainly not a quitter."

A spokesman for the Department of Internal Affairs, which operates the registry, told the Herald discussions with the Wheatons about their son's name were continuing.

The baby is now 2 months old. The Wheatons first applied to register his name in June.

I seriously do not understand what goes through people's heads when they come up with this crap. They don't even try to be subtle with these names (maybe they could've fudged it and gotten away with Foreal or something?). Sure, the parent(s) can name their children whatever they want, but it seems so many parents now will do whatever the hell pleases or amuses THEM with no consideration for how their kid is going to have to deal with their name being a joke for their entire lives.

And what about the confusion if someone is discussing the DC superhero? ;p

I just returned from a company trip to Nigeria, and encountered many "alternative" names there....Ballicker, Turdburglar, Dipshit (love that one), Art For Atr's Sake, Hammerhead and Pee-Pee....our interpreter was named Buttugly and he had a newborn named Gook....I don't know what all the fuss is about frankly....my parents named me Fartface and I've enjoyed it my whole life....quite the conversation starter...

If people could name there son dick like dick cheney, i don't see the problem naming him 4real or superman.

On the topic of naming kids.....If Helen Hunt ever has a son she owes it to the world to name him Mike! It just must be done!

There are just too many brainless people naming babies out there. Like the daughter of Bill and Moya Lear (Lear Jet).. Her name is Shanda.. Yep..Shanda Lear.

And read News Of The Weird sometime.. You see names like Placenta, Chlamidya and similar. I think people need to get feedback before they are allowed to give a child a specific name. Even someone I work with, his name is Richard Spitz. Think about it. What were his parents thinking? Imagine how he gets teased, tormented, and abused as a result.

Bad names result in bad experiences for the child. Either use your brain, or stick to an established name. Sheesh.

They should make the parents change their own names for a month to see how they like it before sticking the poor kid with it.

Knew a guy named Al B. Damn

I feel really bad for the baby. Expecially considering the baby's parents cant even give him a REAL name unlike "4REAL" or any thing like that. Yea, granted he can change his name when he's 18 but just think about the torture and himiluation he's going to go through about his name until he's 18.
