THE
REBIRTH
OF
NATO
All
this
week,
Riz
is
in
New
York,
as
world
leaders
convene
for
the
U.N.
General
Assembly.Written
off
as
a
relic
of
the
Cold
War
just
a
few
years
ago,
NATO
is
back
on
the
world
scene
in
force.
The
alliance
of
28
European
countries,
including
the
U.S.
and
Canada,
found
a
new
purpose
with
the
attacks
of
9/11.In
October
2001,
for
the
first
time
in
its
60-year
history,
NATO
invoked
Article
5
of
its
Charter,
which
says
that
an
attack
on
any
member
shall
be
considered
to
be
an
attack
on
all.
Two
years
later,
NATO
took
control
of
the
International
Security
Assistance
Force,
which
commands
around
55,000
troops
in
Afghanistan.But
as
the
Afghan
War
drags
on,
and
casualties
from
member
states
rise,
many
NATO
countries
want
to
see
a
timeline
to
the
conclusion
of
the
war.
Meanwhile,
tensions
with
Moscow
grow
as
NATO
expands
deeper
into
Warsaw
Pact
territory.
So
what
are
the
challenges
laying
ahead
for
the
world’s
biggest
military
alliance?On
Monday,
Riz
spoke
with
veteran
Danish
politician
Anders
Fogh
Rasmussen,
the
new
Secretary
General
of
NATO
