Reports of Margaret Thatcher's death turned out to be greatly exaggerated. A rumor that the former British prime minister had passed away began circulating among Canadian politicos when the country's transport minister sent a text saying, "Thatcher is dead." But the Thatcher in question was his beloved cat, not the Iron Lady.

Woman with Child Drives Into Aquarium

A woman with a boy on her lap drives into the aquarium at the Tampa International Airport. The 36-year-old and 6-year-old were unharmed in the incident, which began when the woman lost control of her truck. However, most of the saltwater fish were not so lucky.

The toast of the auction circuit this week is a bottle of beer recovered from the famous Hindenburg crash in New Jersey more than 70 years ago. The modest drink, which still bears a Lowenbrau label, is expected to become the most expensive beer ever sold, the auction house says.

The Large Hadron Collider is shorted out when a bird drops part of a baguette into its external machinery. The $10 billion atom smasher has already been beset by various technical glitches, but the baguette-toting bird took the LHC staff by surprise. Luckily the massive gizmo was powered down at the time of the incident, and suffered no major damage.

A 74-year-old man said to be the oldest graffiti vandal ever captured in Los Angeles County was arrested Friday, authorities said. Deputies spotted the septuagenarian John Scott putting stickers on a stairwell at a downtown Metro Center subway station. The black-and-orange bumper stickers ask, "Who is John Scott?" and have been seen stuck on buses in Baldwin Hills and areas on the Westside of the city. Read More

A northwest Alabama man is in jail minus part of his nose, which police said was bitten off during a robbery attempt. Police said a 40-year-old man was in custody Friday after surrendering to authorities. He will be charged in what police said was a robbery attempt that occurred Monday in Tuscumbia. Read More

Pennsylvania State Police say a man was drunk when he hopped on a lawn tractor and drove it to buy more beer. Police said 63-year-old Ford Earl Broome, of Export, was stopped by a state trooper at about 8 p.m. on Sept. 6. The trooper said he stopped Broome near a tavern, and that Broome smelled of alcohol and appeared to be drunk. Police said Broome denied drinking, but then acknowledged he "drank a little" before driving the tractor to a bar to buy more beer. Read More
