Canadian Teen Rescued on Arctic Ice

A 17-year-old who went missing in the Arctic on Saturday while polar bear hunting with his uncle was rescued Monday morning, adrift on a chunk of ice. He shot a polar bear to protect himself while he waited for help.

Navies of 2 Koreas Clash on Border

South Korean officials say one of their ships exchanged fire with a North Korean vessel along the countries' disputed western coast. Both sides blame the other for violating the sea border. The skirmish comes as the U.S. said a special envoy was going to Pyongyang for rare talks on the communist nation's nuclear activities.

Sources: Obama Near Afghan Decision

Although Bandeirante University earlier accused Geisy Arruda, 20, of flouting "ethical principles, academic morality, and dignity," the school has now invited her to return. Some of the students who heckled Arruda may also be temporarily suspended.

3 Arrested in Fireworks Arson Murder

Three teenagers are arrested in connection with a deadly house fire in southwestern England that started when a lit firecracker was thrust through a letter slot. British media report that Mary Fox, 59, perished in the blaze after helping her son to safety. A neighbor says the suspects were laughing and jeering as they watched the house burn.

A new study by the World Health Organization finds that the AIDS virus is the leading cause of death and disease among women between the ages of 15 and 44. And unsafe sex is the leading risk factor in developing countries for these women of childbearing ages, the study says.
