Official: Obama Rejects Afghan Options

A top official says President Barack Obama, unhappy with all the Afghanistan war options he's been given, won't accept any of them unless changes are made. The news comes as Karl Eikenberry, the American ambassador there, recently expressed big concerns that a troop buildup would make the already weak government more reliant on the United States.

UN: 200 Million Kids Are Malnourished

Nearly 200 million children are malnourished and have stunted growth as a result, according to a United Nations report. Most of them live in Africa and Asia. Without sufficient food, the kids are unable to fight off disease and many die before they reach the age of 5.

US Pilot Allegedly Too Drunk to Fly

British authorities say they stopped a United Airlines pilot from flying on Monday because he was intoxicated. Erwin Vermont Washington was charged in the incident and has since been released on bail. United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy says the 51-year-old was "removed from service" during an investigation.

Brazil Suffers Widespread Blackout

Transmission problems at a huge hydroelectric dam in Brazil caused a massive power outage Tuesday night, leaving millions in several major cities without electricity for hours. The lights have since come back on, but the incident is another black eye for the South American country set to host the 2016 Olympic Games.

World's Priciest Beer to Be Auctioned

The toast of the auction circuit this week is a bottle of beer recovered from the famous Hindenburg crash in New Jersey more than 70 years ago. The modest drink, which still bears a Lowenbrau label, is expected to become the most expensive beer ever sold, the auction house says.
