Parents across the U.S. have also been inspired, choosing names for their newborns like Barack, Obama, Michelle, Malia and Sasha.

So what kind of pooch will the Obamas end up getting? If the president-elect has his way, it won't be a "girly dog." At least that's what he implied to ABC News' Barbara Walters during a recent interview, according to a Politico report.
